There is also encouraging community news involving Indigenous youth, an upcoming Harrison Hot Springs charity gala and a regional business forum examining the economic implications of British Columbia's election.

## **CHILLIWACK & ROSEDALE**

### **Chilliwack awards $281,863 contract for four pedestrian-safety upgrades**

City of Chilliwack has awarded a $281,863 contract to install rectangular rapid-flashing beacons at four additional pedestrian crossings.

The improvements will be installed at Hope River Road and Kent Road, Yale Road and Gibson Road, Menzies Street and Macken Avenue, and the Yale Road crossing near the Lickman Park & Ride.

Construction is expected to take approximately eight weeks, with substantial completion targeted for December 31.

The project addresses pedestrian safety at established crossing locations and will receive partial funding through ICBC's Road Improvement Program and a Vision Zero road-safety grant.

### **PUBLIC SAFETY: Chilliwack RCMP seek assistance locating missing 41-year-old man**

Chilliwack RCMP are asking the public to help locate 41-year-old David Savard, who was last seen August 28.

Police describe Savard as approximately six feet tall, weighing 201 pounds, with grey hair, blue eyes, and a grey beard. Family members and investigators are concerned about his well-being.

The investigation involves a local resident who has been missing for nearly two months.

Police advise anyone who sees Savard not to approach him, but to contact authorities immediately.

Anyone with information can contact Chilliwack RCMP at **604-792-4611**.

### **DEVELOPMENT: Public meeting scheduled for proposed 80-RV storage facility in Bridal Falls**

The Fraser Valley Regional District is inviting public feedback on a proposal to establish outdoor storage for up to 80 recreational vehicles at 10181 Cheam Road in Bridal Falls.

The application seeks a temporary-use permit for RV storage only. No camping, overnight accommodation, office use or permanent redevelopment is proposed.

A public information meeting will take place **November 4, from 6–7 p.m.**, at the Cottages at Bridal Falls clubhouse.

The proposal could create a commercial storage opportunity, but its implications for nearby residents, land use and vehicle traffic warrant examination.

No approval has been granted. The regional district is gathering public input before making a decision

**POSITIVE: Indigenous youth build connections through canoeing at Cultus Lake**

The Upper Fraser Valley RCMP Indigenous Policing Services team has highlighted a recent initiative that brought students together for traditional canoeing, cultural learning and relationship-building at Cultus Lake.

The October 2 gathering involved students from Two Rivers Education Centre and Vedder Middle School, with participation from the Chilliwack and Fraser-Cascade school districts.

Knowledge Keepers shared songs, drumming and teachings while students learned paddling skills and worked together on the water.

The initiative demonstrates how outdoor education and cultural programming can strengthen relationships between Indigenous youth, schools and community policing services.

### **LOCAL GOVERNMENT: Chilliwack residents invited to help shape 2027 municipal budget**

Chilliwack residents have until **November 8** to provide input on the city's proposed 2027–2036 financial plan.

The consultation asks residents to identify municipal services and priorities they consider most important as the city balances infrastructure investment, operating costs and property taxation.

The city is developing its long-term financial plan while seeking to avoid borrowing and maintain sustainable service delivery.

The budget will influence future spending on roads, recreation, public safety, infrastructure and other municipal services.

**COMMUNITY: Chilliwack Queer Arts Festival hosts public discussion tonight**

The Chilliwack Cultural Centre presents *Spill the Tea Party* tonight as part of its 2026 Queer Arts Festival.

The event brings together artists, creators and community representatives for a discussion about creative expression, representation and personal experiences.

The gathering runs from **7–8:30 p.m.** in the Rotary Hall Studio Theatre, with admission by donation.

The event creates opportunities for community dialogue and supports the development of Chilliwack's local arts sector.

## **AGASSIZ & DISTRICT OF KENT**

### **Council decisions awaiting confirmation**

The District of Kent was scheduled to consider two important matters Monday evening: a zoning amendment permitting a mixed-animal veterinary clinic at 5402 Lougheed Highway and a proposed 2027 nonprofit property-tax exemption bylaw.

Both matters were covered in Monday's edition. **No verified post-meeting decisions were available during this morning's research**, so neither is being presented as newly approved.

These remain priority follow-ups because the veterinary clinic could expand agricultural services, while the tax exemptions would affect community organizations and municipal finances.

## **HARRISON HOT SPRINGS & HARRISON MILLS**

### **COMMUNITY FUNDRAISING: Harrison firefighters prepare November charity gala**

The Harrison Hot Springs Firefighters Charitable Society is preparing its second annual charity gala, scheduled for **Saturday, November 7**, at the Harrison Hot Springs Resort & Spa.

The Roaring Twenties-themed event will feature dinner, live entertainment, raffles and a silent auction.

Proceeds will support Kent Harrison Search and Rescue, Agassiz-Harrison Community Services, and Talking Trauma, an organization that provides critical-incident stress support.

**Why it matters:** The fundraiser brings together businesses, emergency responders and community organizations to support services used throughout the Agassiz-Harrison region.

## **HOPE**

### **GOOD SAMARITAN: Hope RCMP hope to reunite recovered e-bike with owner**

Hope RCMP are seeking the owner of an electric bicycle recently discovered in downtown Hope and turned over to police by a Good Samaritan.

Despite efforts to identify its owner, the bicycle remains unclaimed.

Anyone who believes the bicycle belongs to them can contact Hope RCMP at **604-869-7750**, referencing file 2026-47524\. Police will require identifying information to establish ownership.

The incident is a positive example of community cooperation and provides a practical opportunity to return valuable property to its rightful owner.

## **FRASER CANYON**

### **Lytton mayoral election judicial recount scheduled for 3 p.m.**

The Village of Lytton has confirmed that a judicial recount of its tied mayoral election will take place **today, October 27, at 3 p.m.**

The Provincial Court has accepted the recount application submitted by Chief Election Officer Shannon Story.

Incumbent Denise O'Connor and challenger Jennifer Thoss each received exactly 45 votes in the October 17 municipal election.

The outcome will determine who leads a community still facing major rebuilding, infrastructure and financial challenges following the 2021 wildfire.

If the recount confirms the tie, the winner will be selected by drawing lots under the applicable election procedures.

## **REGIONAL UPPER FRASER VALLEY**

### **BUSINESS: Fraser Valley business leaders to examine post-election economic priorities**

The Fraser Valley Business Coalition has announced a regional business forum for November 3 to examine the economic and investment implications of British Columbia's recent provincial and municipal elections.

The nonpartisan event will bring together business leaders, policy specialists and political commentators to discuss government priorities, business confidence, operating costs and investment attraction.

The forum will take place at the Clarion Hotel and Conference Centre in Abbotsford from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Provincial and municipal decisions affecting infrastructure, taxation, development and economic policy have direct implications for employers and investors throughout the Upper Fraser Valley.
