### **Chilliwack RCMP confirm man's death on Keith Wilson Road**

Chilliwack RCMP are investigating the circumstances surrounding a man's death Wednesday afternoon near the Keith Wilson Road and Tyson Road roundabout.

Emergency personnel responded at approximately 2:20 p.m. October 28 after receiving a report of an unconscious man. Despite efforts to save his life, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have identified the man but are withholding his name out of respect for his family.

The incident prompted an emergency response in a busy area of Sardis.

RCMP say the death does not appear suspicious and criminal activity is not believed to be involved. Investigators are working with the BC Coroners Service to establish the circumstances.

### **Chilliwack-Hope employers encouraged to apply for 2027 summer jobs funding**

Chilliwack-Hope MP Mark Strahl is encouraging local employers to apply for wage subsidies through the federal Canada Summer Jobs program.

The program supports employment opportunities for young people aged 15–30\. Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations, public-sector employers and private businesses with 50 or fewer full-time employees.

Applications for summer 2027 funding close **December 3, 2026**.

The program can help local businesses and community organizations offset hiring costs while providing employment and training opportunities for young people.

### **Power restored following outage affecting more than 2,200 customers**

Electricity has been restored to approximately 2,232 customers affected by a power outage in the Chilliwack-Abbotsford area Wednesday afternoon.

According to reporting based on BC Hydro's outage information, the interruption began around 1:40 p.m. October 28\. The utility subsequently restored service.

Even relatively short power interruptions can affect commercial operations, traffic signals and households, making electrical reliability an ongoing infrastructure concern in the growing Fraser Valley.

### **Chilliwack Chiefs strengthen forward lineup with Minnesota signing**

The Chilliwack Chiefs have announced the signing of forward Peter Murray from Edina, Minnesota.

The six-foot-one, 190-pound player recorded 35 points, including 19 goals, in 28 games with St. Thomas Academy during the 2025–26 season. Murray subsequently played with the Minot Minotauros and Omaha Lancers.

Chiefs head coach and general manager Brian Maloney says the addition will bring size and speed to the team's offensive lineup.

The signing represents a roster investment as the Chiefs work to strengthen their competitive position in the BCHL.

### **New analysis examines impact of Sardis Secondary's 400-seat expansion**

A new local analysis is examining the implications of the recently completed expansion at Sardis Secondary School for classroom capacity across Chilliwack.

The two-storey mass-timber addition was completed in August, creating space for 400 additional students and increasing the school's capacity to 1,600\. The expansion also allowed School District 33 to remove 11 portable classrooms from the property and relocate them elsewhere.

The project includes new science labs, music and drama facilities, multipurpose learning spaces and improvements to the school's gymnasium and transportation infrastructure.

The expansion represents a significant investment in educational infrastructure at a time when Chilliwack continues to experience enrolment pressures.

Construction completion was announced previously. The new reporting examines the project's impact and identifies remaining questions about costs, classroom allocation and district-wide capacity.

### **Fraser River salmon documentary screening scheduled today**

A community screening of *The Spirit Who Swims* is listed for Thursday, October 29, with filmmaker Bev Sellars expected to participate.

The documentary explores the cultural, spiritual and ecological importance of salmon to Indigenous communities along the Fraser River. It also examines environmental pressures affecting salmon populations and the relationship between Indigenous peoples and the river.

Salmon conservation is directly connected to Upper Fraser Valley First Nations, fisheries, agriculture and environmental stewardship.

The current community-services listing confirms the date and filmmaker's participation, but the venue and screening time were not independently verified. Those details should be confirmed before publishing an event invitation.

# **AGASSIZ & DISTRICT OF KENT**

### **Agassiz RCMP arrest two suspected impaired drivers following separate collisions**

Agassiz RCMP have reported two separate incidents involving suspected impaired drivers and collisions near Highway 9.

In the first case, officers responded to a vehicle that had struck a utility pole near Highway 9 and Morrow Road. Police found the driver asleep behind the wheel, observed drug paraphernalia and subsequently arrested him for suspected impaired operation and obstruction.

The driver was also found to have outstanding warrants, and his vehicle was impounded.

In the second incident, police received reports of a truck striking a concrete barrier before continuing along the highway with sparks coming from its tires.

Officers located the vehicle near the Agassiz-Rosedale Bridge. The driver was arrested after refusing to provide a requested roadside breath sample, and an Immediate Roadside Prohibition was issued.

Both incidents occurred near an important transportation corridor used by commuters, commercial vehicles and agricultural operators.

The allegations of criminal impaired driving have not been established in court. Roadside administrative penalties are separate from criminal convictions.

### **Kent publishes latest council highlights**

The District of Kent published highlights from its October 26 council meeting on Wednesday.

The meeting included consideration of several matters previously identified for follow-up, such as a proposed veterinary clinic at 5402 Lougheed Highway and the municipality's 2027 nonprofit property tax exemptions.

Both matters have implications for local economic activity, agricultural services and community organizations.

Although the municipality has published its meeting highlights, the specific decisions on these two matters could not be independently established from the accessible material. Neither proposal should be described as approved or rejected without reviewing the complete council record.

**Agassiz prepares Halloween Spooktacular**

The District of Kent has listed its annual Spooktacular celebration for Saturday, October 31.

The community event is part of the municipality's Halloween programming. Residents should consult the District's event calendar for confirmed activity times and locations.

# **HOPE**

### **Police warn wanted woman may be in Hope area**

Coquitlam RCMP are asking for public assistance locating 43-year-old Chelcey Hodder, who is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant of committal.

Police say Hodder was reported missing on October 23 after failing to return to a facility as required. Investigators have traced her movements to Hope and believe she may remain in the area or be travelling toward Kamloops.

Hodder is described as approximately five-foot-two, weighing 90 pounds, with brown-blonde hair, hazel eyes and a star tattoo on her right wrist.

Police believe the individual may be travelling through the Upper Fraser Valley and Fraser Canyon transportation corridors.

Her current whereabouts have not been confirmed.

Police advise members of the public **not to approach her**. Anyone who sees her should call 9-1-1.

### **Hope's new community hub welcomes residents tomorrow**

Chilliwack Community Services is preparing to host an open house at its new Hope facility, The Commons, on Friday, October 30.

Located at Unit A, 895 Third Avenue, the storefront is intended to strengthen connections among residents, community organizations and service providers.

Visitors will be able to tour the facility, learn about existing programs and discuss opportunities for additional services and community partnerships.

The expansion strengthens the organization's presence in Hope and the Fraser Canyon, where access to services can be challenging for residents of smaller and more remote communities.

### **Boston Bar break-in investigation leads to two arrests and recovery of stolen vehicles**

Boston Bar RCMP have arrested two suspects following an investigation into a reported break-in at a property along the Trans-Canada Highway.

Officers responding to the incident located several individuals near the property. With assistance from Police Dog Services, investigators tracked and arrested two suspects.

Police seized a truck, a trailer, and an all-terrain vehicle associated with the investigation.

Subsequent checks revealed that the ATV had reportedly been stolen approximately eight years earlier, while the truck had been reported stolen from Chilliwack about two weeks before the incident.

The investigation highlights the importance of coordinated policing across smaller Fraser Canyon communities and of recovering property stolen elsewhere in the region.

Two arrests were made, and property was recovered. Charges remain subject to review and approval by the BC Prosecution Service. The suspects have not been convicted.
