### Chilliwack & Rosedale

**Safety Fair brings practical emergency education to Chilliwack.** A community safety fair announced today will give children and adults hands-on information about staying safe at home and in the community. The event brings together several areas of prevention and preparedness rather than focusing solely on emergency response.   

**Chilliwack's historic Chinatown comes back into view.** Heritage Chilliwack is holding free “Uncovering Chinatown” activities October 3, including guided tours and four new heritage plaques marking sites connected to early Chinese-Canadian residents and businesses. The plaques follow roughly three years of research and represent the first phase of a broader effort to document Chilliwack's Chinatown history.   

**Community remembers cyclist Catherine “Kitty” Dunham.** Residents gathered Saturday for a candlelight vigil for the 79-year-old Chilliwack volunteer killed while cycling September 19\. Police have identified and seized the suspected vehicle and arrested and subsequently released a driver while the investigation continues. **DEVELOPING:** police are still investigating. 

**Drug-trafficking investigation continues after 23 people detained.** Chilliwack RCMP executed warrants at two neighbouring Victor Street homes following tips about suspected drug activity. Twenty-three people were detained, most were released, two remained in custody on outstanding warrants, and both properties received No Occupancy notices. **DEVELOPING:** charges remain subject to further investigation and prosecution approval. 

**Sqwá First Nation responds to fires with increased security.** Police continue investigating two September 19 fires involving an abandoned trailer and Sqwá's old hall. The Nation said no one was hurt but announced plans for 24/7 patrols and additional RCMP patrols following the incidents.

**Old Yale Brewing completes major Chilliwack reinvestment.** Old Yale Brewing reopened its flagship location after nearly a year of construction. The redesign adds a full indoor kitchen, revamped gathering space and locally inspired artwork; an updated outdoor patio is planned for spring 2027\. 

### Agassiz & Rosedale

**Agassiz's new regional aquatic centre is officially open.** The 27,000-square-foot Lets’emό:t Regional Recreation and Aquatic Centre opened Friday after years of planning. The facility includes an eight-lane lap pool, leisure pool and lazy river, whirlpool, steam room, sauna, spectator area and community room, and is designed to serve residents throughout Kent, Harrison Hot Springs and neighbouring areas. 

**$33-million Agassiz-Rosedale Bridge rehabilitation is now a three-year story to watch.** Work is beginning on structural steel, concrete, drainage and expansion-joint improvements intended to add roughly 50 years to the bridge's service life. Nearly **15,000 vehicles a day** use this Highway 9 crossing, so overnight alternating traffic, winter restrictions and occasional short full closures could have consequences for commuters, agriculture, tourism and commercial traffic. 

**Recent bridge collision demonstrates the crossing's vulnerability.** A September 25 crash temporarily snarled traffic on the Agassiz-Rosedale Bridge before normal two-way traffic resumed later that afternoon. With major rehabilitation now beginning, incidents on this two-lane crossing deserve continued attention. 

### Harrison Hot Springs & Harrison Area

**Film production activity continues around Harrison.** Residents have recently seen production activity along Rockwell Drive north of Harrison Hot Springs. Beyond the novelty value, repeated film shoots can generate spending on accommodation, food, transportation and local services, making this a small but worthwhile regional economic-development story to watch. 

**Local-election activity is building in Agassiz and Harrison.** The Harrison-Agassiz Chamber of Commerce is organizing all-candidates meetings, while campaigning is underway ahead of October's municipal vote. These meetings provide residents an opportunity to hear candidates' positions directly rather than relying solely on campaign materials. 

**BREAKING: Highway 3 collision causes Monday-morning delays in Hope.** First responders attended a crash on Highway 3 just after 6:30 a.m. today, and one man was transported to hospital. Traffic delays were reported while emergency crews dealt with the scene. 

**Truth and Reconciliation Gathering planned in Hope.** Several community partners are joining together for a gathering at the Shxw'ōwhámél Complex. **Three fires in one morning put pressure on Hope Fire Department.** Firefighters responded September 24 to three separate fires, including two associated with encampments. Two people were treated for smoke inhalation, one also suffered burns, and the department said the incidents pushed its 2026 call volume above **700 calls**. 

**Chilliwack Community Services establishes a permanent foothold in Hope.** [Chilliwack Community Services](https://www.comserv.bc.ca/?utm%5Fsource=chatgpt.com) plans to open **The Commons**, a downtown Hope storefront, as a hub connecting residents and organizations with services extending through the Fraser Canyon to Boston Bar. The organization says an October open house is planned. 

**Fraser Canyon wildfire threat has eased substantially, but recovery remains worth watching.** The massive Ainslie Creek wildfire, which burned more than 677 square kilometres and disrupted Highway 1 for much of the summer, no longer posed an immediate threat when the final TNRD evacuation alert was lifted earlier this month, although some First Nation alerts remained at that point. The scale of this summer's fires makes recovery, highway impacts and future mitigation an important continuing Fraser Canyon story.
