I also found several important developments published yesterday that weren't in the previous roundup. ## **Chilliwack & Rosedale** **Highway 1 crash slows Tuesday morning commute.** A vehicle ended up in the centre median near Lickman Road early this morning, with emergency crews blocking the eastbound left lane and the westbound shoulder. Motorists were being warned to expect delays in both directions. **Thousands lose power in Chilliwack and the Fraser Valley.** BC Hydro crews were dispatched this morning to three major outages affecting more than 8,500 customers across Chilliwack and Langley. For Chilliwack businesses and residents, this is today's other developing story to watch for restoration progress and any ongoing service disruptions. **Major mixed-use development proposed for long-vacant Yale Road property.** Gatehouse Developments is seeking rezoning for 45645 Yale Road at Airport Road to permit a new mid-rise residential and commercial development on the 1.66-acre site. The property, once associated with the UFV campus, has sat vacant for years; a public hearing is scheduled for October 6 at Chilliwack City Hall. **Why it matters:** This is exactly the kind of Chilliwack story we should track beyond the initial announcement. A substantial mixed-use redevelopment at Yale and Airport could add housing, commercial activity and further redevelopment momentum to this part of the city. **Historic Chinatown recognition moves forward.** Heritage Chilliwack is preparing free October 3 tours and activities around downtown Chilliwack's former Chinatown, accompanied by four new heritage plaques. The plaques are the result of about three years of research and represent the first phase of a broader effort to document the city's Chinese-Canadian history. **Old Yale Brewing reopens after substantial renovation.** Old Yale Brewing has reopened its Chilliwack flagship following nearly a year of construction. The project adds a redesigned interior and full-service indoor kitchen, representing a notable reinvestment by a locally founded business that has operated in Chilliwack since 1999\. **Agassiz, Rosedale & Harrison** **$33-million Agassiz-Rosedale Bridge project enters construction phase.** Work is now underway on the three-year rehabilitation of the Highway 9 crossing, addressing deteriorating structural steel and concrete, drainage and other components. I'll keep it on the continuing watchlist rather than treating it as a one-day story. **Lets’emó:t Regional Recreation and Aquatic Centre begins its first full week.** The newly opened Agassiz facility is now moving from ribbon-cutting story to actual regional service. Because it serves Kent, Harrison Hot Springs and surrounding FVRD communities, usage, programming and community response will be worth following as operations settle in. **Harrison-area filming continues to create local economic activity.** Recent production work around Rockwell Drive is another indication that the Harrison area continues attracting film crews. Individual shoots are modest stories, but repeated production can mean accommodation, restaurant, transportation and supplier spending—making the broader trend more interesting than any single film shoot. ## **Hope & Fraser Canyon** **Logging-truck driver injured in major Highway 3 collision.** Hope RCMP says a logging truck and a semi collided eastbound on Highway 3, just west of the Highway 5 junction, at approximately 5:08 a.m. Monday. The logging-truck driver had to be extricated and transported to hospital, while debris forced the highway to close for several hours; impairment is not believed to have been involved and the cause remains under investigation. **Man dies after being struck by train in Hope.** Hope RCMP confirmed that a man died after being struck by a train beneath the Water Avenue overpass on Saturday, September 26\. Police are continuing the investigation in conjunction with Canadian National Railway. **New downtown Hope community-services hub moves closer to opening.** Chilliwack Community Services is establishing a permanent storefront in downtown Hope this fall, expanding its physical presence for residents from Hope through the Fraser Canyon to Boston Bar. Programs already delivered in the region include newcomer, childcare, resource, and community support services. **Why it matters:** This is more than another storefront opening. It represents an expansion of regional service infrastructure for smaller communities that often must travel long distances to access support. **Witches & Warlocks returns to Kawkawa Lake this weekend.** Hope's distinctive costumed paddling event returns October 3 for its second year, with paddleboards and kayaks taking to Kawkawa Lake alongside local businesses, community groups and food trucks.
